A first of its kind - Dark Charge Barleywine embodies the essence of time-honored craftsmanship. Aged in freshly dumped New Riff bourbon barrels, this robust barleywine reveals a symphony of flavors—from toffee to toasted coconut. A testament to patience and passion, it's a masterpiece of complexity and depth.

From the 16 oz can in a snifter via the brewery. This solid little brew
pours a muddled dark mahogany with a nice head of off white foam that
settles to a thick ring, thin dusty layer, and sports some nice light lacing.
Nose of bourbon, oak, vinous wine notes, vanilla, toffee, dark cherry,
fig, and dark brown sugars. Flavors surpass the nose with a nice presentation
of cherry, oak, cranberry, bourbon, light vanilla, fig, date, herbal and spicy
hops, brown sugars, toffee, and subtle smoke. Mouth feel is medium, rich,
smooth, warming, light carbonation, and finishing moderately sweet and
boozy with a warming finish that is moderately dry.

Overall----WOW. One of my favorite styles done right in a bourbon barrel!

Cheers

16 ounce can, canned on 11/27/23. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a mahogany brown color with some reddish tinges. There's also about an inch tan head that stuck around a little while with a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like vanilla, coconut, caramel, toffee, dark fruit and some earthiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some bourbon, oak and herbal hop flavors. Good amount of barrel character here. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's coating and a bit syrupy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this barrel aged barleywine a lot, certainly worth trying if you get the chance. A worthy addition to the Dark Charge line of barrel aged brews!
