A robust and flavorful German lager that exemplifies the artistry of traditional brewing. This dark and malt-forward beer is characterized by its rich, complex taste profile. Boasting a deep mahogany, this beer exhibits a luxurious malt sweetness with notes of caramel, toffee, and chocolate, balanced by a subtle hop bitterness.

At the Union location. A bit too hoppy for my taste.

Pours a nice, deep hazel, with light head and good lacing. Good-looking beer. Poured too cold from the tap, which killed the nose; letting it come up to temp lets off some bready notes, more like chocolate babka than banana bread. Taste, though, is excellent. Too many dopplebocks are over-sweet; this one has a good balance of sweetness, toastiness, alcohol. On flavor, dangerously drinkable -- but also a bit too carbonated. Overall, a strong beer.
