Pours black, with dark brown edging. Very small light brown head ... really just a crust. Looks interesting.
Smells like roasted malt, some chocolate ... surprisingly nice, but my expectations were somewhat lowered considered my past experiences with this brewery. A nutty earthiness to the aroma.
And a chocolate, earthy, nutty flavor is what you're getting here. It's balanced by roasted, acrid malt that comes just short of being annoying. A solid beer, if one that is too a bit too watery. The chocolate could be more explosive, but it's decent enough.
