Notes: Take a trip to the lost island of Porter Rico, where the cacao and coconut live in harmony and frolic the sandy shores. Our island getaway takes the form of a dark, chocolatey beer, with a balancing sweetness, medium body, and lingering mouthfeel. Intense toasted coconut rides the trade winds for a truly exotic, yet comfortingly familiar pint.

Presentation: 12 oz. brown bottle with no dates. Served in a Willi Becher glass.

Appearance: The dense, three finger head stays around for a very long time and leaves behind a layer of foam. The lacing is thick, patchy and covers the entire glass. It's a pure black color.

Scent: It's a sweet scent with notes of toasted coconut, vanilla, brown sugar and milk chocolate.

Taste: It's sweet in a slightly medicinal way but not overwhelmingly so. The milk chocolate, coconut and vanilla are balanced by some bitter dark chocolate and slight coffee notes as well as some roasted malt.

Mouthfeel: It's medium to light bodied and slightly creamy with medium-high carbonation.

Overall: It's lighter than expected but the aroma and taste are actually really good. The lighter body keeps the sweetness from getting cloying so overall, it's a very enjoyable beer.

I received this beer from a BIF. The beer is 55 degrees and served in a pint glass. A semi-hard pour produced a one finger medium tan head with good retention. The color of the beer is SRM 35 dark brown nearly black. The beer has dark red ruby hues. The beer has little carbonation bubbles on the sides of the glass.

Dark roasted malts, coconut, dark chocolate, molasses, toasted biscuit, dark char note, and earthy.

The beer has this acidic undertone in the beer that detracts from the porter notes. The flavor in the beer is toasted coconut, dark chocolate, molasses, toasted biscuit, char, dark roasted malts, and earthy.

The mouthfeel of the is dry.

The body of the beer is medium, medium-high carbonation, and a medium finish.

The beer has this acidic undertone that makes this porter unappetizing. A pleasant toasted coconut flavor in the beer. The beer is just okay, with odd flavors for me.

Look: milk chocolate dark brown, off white head, nice lacing, not a ton of carbonation
Smell: coconut
Taste: dark malts, sweetness with coconut in the middle to later stages of the taste.
Feel: medium body
Overall: I enjoyed this dark beer overall. The coconut flavor stands out and is natural tasting. It almost seems like a brown ale if it were a little lighter in color, but it has more flavor than most brown ales. Then again, it is colored brown and most porters are colored black with a red tint to them. I don't think that I would want to drink several of them, but it was a good beer that stands out.

Appearance - The beer was brownish black with little visible carbonation.

Smell - The nose reminded me of a coconut scented candle. At least there was coconut here.

Taste - At the front were dry, dirty malts with the oiliness of coconut. The coconut profile reminded me of a mouthful of coconut hand lotion, oily but not sweet. The dry bitter malts dominate the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Not sure what to call it, but there was a greasy/oily quality to the feel. Did they use coconut oil?

Overall - This is one of my least favorite coconut beers.

This will go down as the worst beer I pave ever had. I can finish a Corona, but I couldn’t finish this. And I always finish my beer. Not too much positive coming out of Arcadia

12oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a deep brown color with a thin fizzy off-white head that has short retention and leaves nothing behind

S- aroma has the coconut notes, but also a vegetal-like aroma as well. Undertones of chocolate and roast, maybe some toasted nuts

T- a vegetal-like flavor follows the aroma, followed by some unsweetened cocoa flavors. As it nears the finish, the coconut flavor comes on strong, and lingers long after the finish, along with some light coffee

M- medium body and carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into the finish

O- weird flavors up front, but the coconut is nice on the finish. It's actually growing on me the more I drink it

Pours cola-colored with a meager skim of coarse, khaki foam. Aroma smells of noble hops, lactic acid, gingerbread, and toffee, with a hint of coconut--I can only hope this bottle was improperly stored to achieve such a feat.

It tastes nearly as weird as it smells, with a big kick of gingerbread and/or allspice up front, succeeded by grassy, peppery hops over burnt sugar. Aspirin asserts itself on the back end, while rumors of band-aid and roasted malt round out the flavor profile. Light body and high carbonation produce a mouthfeel that could have come straight from McDonald's finest soda dispenser.

I have to think this was either a bad batch or grossly abused during transit/storage, as I can't imagine this happened on purpose. However, seeing as how I can't know that is the case, this unflattering review stands until further notice.

A great beer for anytime you want to escape into a tropical setting! There is a strong scent of toasted coconut you get immediately as you take the top off. The flavors greatly expand in your mouth with a smooth tasted. There are hints of chocolate mixed with the toasted coconut with a dark color in appearance. I was scared the beer might be too overpowering/sweet, but to my surprise was delighted with all the flavors I got!

I got a six of this at my local Meijer. It poured an opaque black with thin ecru head that is not leaving any lace. The scent is coconut. The taste is Mounds like. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation.....wanted this to be a bit Fuller and creamier. Overall it's a solid beer.

Dark brown color where light shines by the edges of the glass. Modest, beige head that settles to thin layer of bubbles. Modest spots for lace.

This smells like a Mounds Bar with chocolate and coconut aromas in equal proportion.

The taste is semisweet chocolate and coconut, like the smell. Again, I would describe this as a liquid Mounds Bar. It's appealing and a bit novel. Decent body for a porter with lightly elevated carbonation. The aftertaste is largely coconut. I note alcohol as well.

A - Pours a dark brown with a two finger tan head. The head recedes quickly leaving a good amount of soapy lacing.

S - Aroma is coconut and dark chocolate.

T - The taste is coconut and dark chocolate with some bitter dark roasted malts in the finish.

M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Soft mouthfeel with a crisp dry finish.

O - A decent coconut porter. I wish it had a little more body but enjoyable nonetheless.

12 ounce bottle, 10/10/16 stamped on the bottle so I'm assuming that's the bottled on date. Served in a Spiegelau Stout glass, the beer pours a very dark brown color with around a half inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. I like the aroma, the brew smells like coconut, dark chocolate and roasted malt. I think the taste is pretty much just like the aroma. It reminds me of a Mounds bar, with the dark chocolate and coconut flavors. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's a bit slick and thin, but also smooth and easy enough to drink. Moderate carbonation. If you like coconut in your brews, then give this one a try, I liked it. $1.69 for a single bottle at Meijer.

Looked like it was going to be heavy like a true stout. Thick and dark, but deceiving. The head was about a finger and tan. Completely locks lamp light in a pint glass. Aroma is medium, and a good inhale with the first sip leaves a bitter taste. However just having as a social beer and not a beer snob, the chocolate and real coconut comes out with a light and pleasant mouth feel. I could do this as a daily drinker,,,,but just 1 or 2.

This is actually pretty close to being an excellent beer... carb was a little high and its too heavy on the coconut, but throw in some bittersweet chocolate and maybe some additional hops and we're in business.

Pours very dark brown (nearly black) in color. Decent sized khaki colored head on top. Aroma is sweet with strong notes of chocolate and coconut.

The flavor begins a a little odd and strangely astringent, then moves to a chocolate syrup flavor, before finishing nicely with smooth sweet notes of toasted coconut. I enjoyed the beer. Actually, with it being only $3 a pint at the brewery, I loved it!

I'm a fan of coconut. I'd like to see them continue to make this.

I picked up a bottle of Arcadia's Porter Rico Coconut Porter for $1.79 at The Lager Mill. I missed out on trying this at a beer fest once and I'm happy to get to try it in bottles now, so lets see how it goes. 2015 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a imperial pint glass.

A- The label looks good, it goes good with the name and it's eye catching. It poured a dark brown color that didn't let much light come through and it had a little over half a fingers worth of bubbly tan head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left some spotty lacing behind. This is a pretty nice looking beer, I have no complaints.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the coconut being the first to show up and it imparts big toasted coconut aroma that pretty much dominated the aroma of this beer. Up next comes a little bit of dark roasted and malts and a little bit of sweet malts. The aroma was pretty nice, but I wish more of the porter base comes through.

T- The taste seems to be very similar to the aroma and it starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the coconut still being the first to show up and just like the aroma it impart that same dominating toasted coconut aroma and it's the flavor that sticks out the most in this beer. Up next comes a little bit of roasted and sweet malts with a slightly higher amount of low bitterness with a big toasted coconut flavor in the aftertaste. This is a nice tasting beer, but the coconut was too dominating and it would be nice if the porter base showed up more.

M- Fairly smooth, pretty crisp, on the lighter side of being medium with a higher amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel was nice, but I wish it was a little thicker with a little less carbonation.

Overall I thought this was a nice beer and a nice example of the style, but when it comes down to it there's hardly any balance and that makes this beer a one trick pony. This beer didn't have the best drinkability, half a glass is all I would want. What I like the most about this beer is the aroma and appearance, there were pretty nice and the highlight of this beer. What I like the least about this beer was the balance, there's too much coconut and not enough porter. I don't think I would buy this beer again and i might turn it down. All in all this beer is nice, but the lack of balance keeps it from being great. It's not a favorite Arcadia beer and it's slightly above average for the style. Beter luck next time guys, this one could use a little work.

12 oz bottle was poured into a nonic glass.

Appearance: A one finger mocha head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a black/brown color with no vision of anything. Spotty lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Toasted, coconut, roasted, chocolate, nutty, sweetness, and earthy notes.

Taste: Coconut sweetness and nutty notes, roasted, bittersweet chocolate, toasted, and caramel.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, a little sweet, a little dry, coconutty, and medium to high carbonation.

Overall: A nice coconut porter. A bit more carbonated than I would have liked, but still enjoyable.

Poured from bottle to tulip. Liquid is tar-black, with no light making its way through. Head is khaki, two fingers, and Settles to a ring around the rim. No appreciable lacing. Aroma is roast and coconut, as advertised. Taste follows, pure flecked, unsweetened coconut flakes, some roast, and a small bit of a sour flavor. Thin feel.
