750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/17/2018. Bit of a slow gusher opener. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red/copper/brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky lightly khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart/sour red/black cherry, raisin, plum, currant, fig, date, raspberry, blackberry, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, and brown bread; with light notes of roast, peppercorn, oaken vanilla, leathery/musty funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak barrels, and dark/bready/light roasted malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart/sour red/black cherry, raisin, plum, currant, fig, date, raspberry, blackberry, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, and brown bread; with light notes of roast, peppercorn, oaken vanilla, leathery/musty funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tartness, wine tang, and light yeast/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/sour cherry, dark fruit, raspberry, blackberry, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, light vanilla/funk/vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak barrels, and dark/bready/light roasted malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/sourness and tangy wine balance; with no puckering flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/sourness and wine tang. Medium-plus carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and fairly acidic/tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is an excellent Flanders brown ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak barrels, and dark/bready/light roasted malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish; not overly lactic. Awesome well rounded Brett/Bacteria complexity after 18 months in the barrels; with great malt balance against acidity, and nice overall oak barrel presence. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. No complaints at all.
