ive really liked other lagers from these guys, so i had much higher hopes for this. its totally flat in the glass, even though the color is nice, rich orange, a little darker than the standard, but there is no head at all, and thats usually a defining element in these styles. you know, german women in traditional wear carrying steins bubbling over with frothy marzen lager, this is not that, thats for sure. it smells nice though, quite traditional, a little sweet, a little nutty, and pretty festive in vibe. the taste is the same as the nose, honey sweetness, chestnut meatiness, and a brown sugar rawness on the back end, and definitely a german lager yeast, which is nice my only problem is how flat it is, i cant forgive it in this style, and it really turns me off, slows me down, and has me looking over the menu for something different. makes it seem dead and too sweet, and its a real issue. overall though the flavor is really nice, quite traditional, and full of potential if they could give it a little life in the bright tank.
