Appearance – This is a perfect orange and brown mix with a lovely caramel-coated head.

Smell – This one starts out with some really soft citrus then eases into a bottomless pit of caramel-laden malts. The balance is impeccable here.

Taste – The caramel is very heavy at the taste, but pleasantly so. It has the flavor of having been thickened with butter. The citrus nose comes to the tongue with an added touch of pine needles striking an optimum balance.

Mouthfeel – This is what I’d call a heavy medium-bodied and hugely bitter.

Drinkability – This is highly drinkable for all of us hardcore DIPA lovers.

This is yet another great hop monster from Jeff Bagby. Back in February, I was at Oggi's Vista and tasted Ding Ding Double for the first time since the Strong Ale Festival in Carlsbad. Stinger reminded me of that great tasting double IPA. But Stinger was unique, with a sensational Cascade dry hop taste that was clean and really tasty. It also reminded me a bit of Tugboat Brewery's IPA (Portland, OR) except Tugboat lacked the tremendous malt balance that Stinger definitely has. This is no Pliny the Elder, but its a great tasting beer that lacks nothing in the way of delivering satisfaction to the hopeless hophead. So good in fact, that we took home two growlers.

Appearance: Medium copper with typical Left Coast Hop Haze...thin wispy foam; wish there was more

Aroma: With the Dbl. IPA advertisment, nose came in with all three expected smells: Hops, hops, and mo' Hops

Taste: Easy to se where the name originated...the initial taste opens with heavy hops 'Stinging' the insides of the cheeks and gripping the tongue. Mid-taste is heavy with sweetness and supported by the flavor of burnt malt. Finish is dominated (surprise!) by a piney, floral hop blend which takes many seconds to receed

Mouthfeel: This splendid brew is a true mouthful. CO² is supportive and balance is close considering true balance may only be achieved with barleywine malt quantities

Drinkability: A true Left Coast Hop Bomb...great paired up with anything super spicey like Buffalo Wings or straight jalapenos...
