This is the 2018 edition advertises as brewed with cacao nibs, vanilla, cinnamon, and ancho chiles, and that seems about right. At the tap room into a tulip, pours a mahogany/espresso black, with a khaki 1 finger head and decent retention, good lacing. Fairly spicy nose, floating over a silky dark chocolatey foundation. Taste packs even more of a sharp spicy bite, without going too far.

Tan head. Black in color. Lace left.

Typical Mexican stout, but not as spicy as the good ones. The heat shows in the finish a little, but I want more. Otherwise as nice rounded out beer. Very similar to stones xocovesa, but a tad thicker.

Sisyphus Cake Beer, Imperial Stout brewed with 24 Wuollet Bakery birthday cakes, ancho chilies, cinnamon and vanilla. 10% ABV. 51 IBU. Brewed to commemorative the first anniversary of the brewery and taproom.

I must be a lucky fellow. They say there were only 5 of these crowlered. (Because that's a word now, the verb "to crowler.")

Solid blackness, with a rich, creamy tan head atop, long-lasting and looking good.

Aroma: More richness, more depth, more malt. Sweetness is stronger than roast here. Vanilla and cinnamon are picked up easily, and then, yes, it does come across cakey!

Taste: Once on the tongue, it gets even cakier. How can you really quantify and describe that experience? You just feel it, the cakes comes into your senses, and spreads the birthday cheer. Bitterness is kept at bay by sweet malt, and vice versa. Some of the elements we look for in an imperial stout are somewhat muted and masked by the massive load of cakiness. Not quite as much of bittersweet roasty notes, of coffee, but cocoa, sure. And the peppers and spice jump back in place from time to time, just when you forgot they were there.

Full-bodied, fully-flavored, a glorious celebration stout. A gimmick beer? Yeah, but a tasty one, and that's all that matters. The cakitudalescence reigns over all, and it's good. Cheers to more years!

Solid beer. Was a bit thin compared to Mexican cake, peppers came through nicely.

Overall was a solid beer. If it was thicker it would be on par with other pepper stouts.

A well-made local Mexican - style stout? Yes, please.

Not the thickest in appearance but more than adequate with a nice oily sheen and dense khaki head.

The ancho spice is evident on the nose along with fresh vanilla and cinnamon.

Taste follows the nose for the most part. If I didn't know it was ancho peppers I would have guessed a hotter pepper as it may be the most spicy ancho stout I have had. Not overwhelming but certainly assertive. Heat is complimented nicely by the cinnamon.

I feel the base stout could be a bit thicker, but still manages to holds its own amidst the other flavors.

All in all, delicious and enjoyable. Hope it finds a place in the regular rotation.

Reminds me of authentic Mexican hot chocolate. Chocolate base, lots of cinnamon with the ancho peppers kicking in at the back end. The peppers accelerate the cinnamon heat. I would enjoy it more with less cinnamon, or maybe it's the fact that it's more of a red hot candy cinnamon rather than actual cinnamon. Must have used cinnamon extract? Good beer.

Tasted like Mexican hot chocolate. Body was a little thin, but a solid anniversary beer.
