Sam's Tree House. NE IPA. 7.3% ABV. 60 IBU. Sisyphus Brewing, Minneapolis, MN.

To the eye: very hazy, cloudy, pale golden hue, under a strong, stable ivory head of foam.

In the nose: Fresh, vibrant hoppiness. Less bitter, more fruity, tropical tones, pineapple/guava more than citrus and pine. It's all there, but it's more mango than anything else.

In the mouth: Creamy and smooth. Fresh and fruity. Lower bitterness, smooth malt mouthfeel. Tasty stuff. Lovely. Good ol' drinking IPA. This is delicious.

From a crowler purchased at France 44, this is very very tasty but it is advertised as a NEIPA and I don't get that at all, because it doesn't fit the bill to me...it is clear enough for me to see through the glass, not chalky at all, and only minimally hazy. While the mouthful is soft and round, it's more like venomous tropical nectar with a really solid malt backbone than it is pillowy, sweet, and juicy. Lots of hoppiness and no bite whatsoever, a little sticky, in fact. Lots of very ripe tropical fruit flavors (mango, papaya) and a little earthy pine without any bite or resin. A little boozy. I'm not complaining...it is a unique and interesting and very tasty beer, and it isn't a west coast IPA, but it isn't really a NEIPA either...though it has a different hop profile and is much softer, the way it balances substantial malts and hops together reminds me of some red ales.
