Our take on the milkshake IPA except we skipped the lactose (you are welcome, our lactose intolerant friends.) But this thing still tastes like it has a scoop of ice cream in it, with a healthy dose of pineapple and vanilla, to complement the fruity hops and yeast. Look for this one to be a new regular occurrence on our menu!

The hazy yellow-orange brew kicked up a decent foamy cap pouring from crowler. Looks good. Smells like pineapples for sure, juicy. Taste is pineapples and vanilla as advertised, lightly sweet but not cloying. Not much for bitterness and the sweetness carries into lingering pineapple finish. Medium creamy body. This is pretty close to a pineappley-sort of juice drink and lacks much for bitterness to balance so it’s more sweet than I’d prefer. Enjoyed trying it.

This beer pours a ale hazy orange. The aroma is bright with notes of pineapple hard candy, fresh pineapple, and definite milkshake, with loads of vanilla and cream. The flavor is a beautiful, messy dessert, with loads of coconut, vanilla, crystallized pineapple, and a hint of orange peel. The mouth feel is creamy and smooth with foamy carbonation. Overall this is a lovely beer - silly and dessert lie, but utterly brilliant. I unabashedly and unashamedly love it (ok, maybe a touch of bash and shame).

Poured from 16oz can into glass. This is the first Sisyphus beer I have seen packaged in a 4-pack of 16oz cans.
Pale gold colored body, with a slightly cloudy appearance. Half finger white head settles to thick cap and ring. Leaves behind strings and spots of lacing.
Smells like vanilla ice cream topped with pineapple. Very fruity, with vanilla.
Tastes like it smells. Very sweet ice cream flavor, of the vanilla kind, along with loads of sweet, slurpy pineapple. Very little presence of malts or hops, as traditionally experienced in an IPA. No bitterness.
Thicker mouth feel, with good carbonation (which would not necessarily be expected in a shake style beer).
This is kind of a novelty beer to me, and who is the targeted consumer? One who must like a very sweet malted beverage and not like the hop bitterness of a more traditional IPA. Lots of pineapple here; really the beer tastes very similar to a pureed pineapple ice cream float. Rated to style this is very well done.

Scoopshot India Pale Ale. 7% ABV. 60 IBU. Sisyphus Brewing, Minneapolis, MN.
I said I'd stop drinking milkshake IPAs. Maybe this one from Sisyphus is different from the others.? Maybe I'll like this one.
Hazy, golden-hued, lush ivory head above, looking good.
In the nose: Bright hoppy flavors, pine, tropical tones, yet soft, smooth. Creamy, fruity, mmm.
In the mouth: A burst of tropical notes on the palate, pineapple-y, fruity, creamy, delightful, yum. There's plenty of hop flavor, but practically no bitterness. Juicy. Sweet. And along comes the vanilla. Medium-boded, easy drinking. Uh, huh.
Okay, so I don't hate it. But, I won't return to it, unless there's nothing else around. I need that old time IPA. The bitter, hoppy ones. I love those. Those are the good ones.
