Poured from 650mL bomber into a dimpled mug.
Appearance: dark amber-brown hue with a light haze. Head pours several fingers of frothy tan foam that dissipates slowly leaving a nice chunky lace. Maybe not as cloudy as I'd like but really quite good otherwise.
Smell: lightly smoky with a rather messy phenolic character. A good banana and clove are present, but there's also some sharpness here and an unwelcome band-aid element.
Taste: sadly, the band-aid element from the aroma comes across in the flavor as well. There is a nice maltiness, but it just can't quite make up for the harsher phenolic character.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and OK creaminess.
Overall: not the worst beer in the world, but it just doesn't really work for me.

750ml bottle poured into Sam Adams pint glass.
Pours a deep, slightly hazy brick red with four fat fingers of thick tan head that leaves chubby cartoon tentacles of lace as it recedes.
Smells of smoked banana chips, spiced pie crust, toffee, cinnamon, and mild green hops.
Tastes of burnt banana bread, roasted nuts, caramel malt, ash, nutmeg, cinnamon, and more leafy hops.
Feels smooth and creamy. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Finishes off-dry.
Verdict: Recommended. Not overly smoky and that's just fine with me.

Appearance - Pours a mahogany brown with four fingers of frothy off white head.
Smell - clove, banana, yeast, hint of smoke and smoked meat, caramel malts, nuttiness, and hops.
Taste - clove and banana upfront followed by the yeast, and caramel malts. The nuttiness and earthy hops follow suit. The smokiness is lost in translation as the clove and banana take precedence in this brew followed by the malts.
Mouthfeel - Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes off dry with the smokiness narrowly edging out the malts, clove, and banana.
Overall - An interesting take on the style. The smoke should of been more predominant in the taste to make it a stand out. The base was done correctly but the smoke was lost in translation. Some tweaks to this one would make it more true to the "smoked" dunkelweizen style.

I really enjoyed this beer! It is lovely in the glass - deep amber, with puffy white head - beware - there is a fair amount of sludge at the bottom of the bottle! As a previous reviewer remarked, the label really says it all. Toasted. Banana. Smoke. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the restrained smoke influence on the overall product.

650ml bomber poured into tulip23/2/16
A hazy brownish amber, not enough clarity to see bubbles but I'm guessing there's plenty as they pump out a well sustained three finger foam that never completely falls and leaves lots of random lace
S lots of smoke, over-ripe bananas, some bruised apple, a little coco, and smoked meat, there's a medicinal thing going on in the background through, iodine and band aids maybe? whatever it is its holding this one back
T the banana's chocolate covered, still smoky but it has a burnt band aid thing going on that I just can't shake bringing down the score
M lighter bodied, lots of bubbles fluff it up but stops short of creamy and gets a little foamy, fruity, smoky finish gets away from the band aids
O there's potential here but some off flavors getting in the way, I can't say its bad but it could be much better
I can see where their going but they don't quite get there, perhaps my bottles a little off? I doubt I'd buy another 4 bomber mixed pack it came in to find out.

650ml bottle - I am a fan of this brewery's succinct label marketing ethos: 'Smoke - Toasted - Banana'. Got it.
This beer pours a murky, dark orange-brick brown colour, with three chubby fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy off-white head, which leaves some dense smoke signal lace around the glass as it very slowly bleeds away.
It smells of meaty smoked caramel and wheat malt, edgy yeast, toasted banana chips, an indistinct earthy nuttiness, and plain bitter green hops. The taste is some roasted wheaty graininess, testy and slightly phenolic yeast, overripe singed bananas, a touch of citrus rind acerbity, oily bar-top nuts, and a still understated leafy, weedy, and musty hoppiness.
The carbonation is quite soft in its barely-there at times frothiness, the body medium-light in weight, and sort of smooth, I suppose, once I scrape that perceived notion of ashiness off of my tongue. It finishes off-dry, the malt and banana esters fighting a losing battle against the sneaky-ass smoke.
I find that smoking most fruits, including banana, does no one any favours. So here, the insistence on masking the base dunkelweizen's well-known flavour profiles doesn't make a whole lot of sense, unless of course there's something else at play - oh, right, I forgot - Steel & Oak should be called SOS: Steel & Oak & Smoke.
