650ml bottle - yeah, I'm sure that if I had enough of this stuff that I might be inclined to go outside right now in shorts and flip-flops.
This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium copper amber colour, with four fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat chunky off-white head, which leaves some layered streaky lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.
It smells of banana cream pie, some grainy wheatiness, mildly spicy peppercorns, a hint of musty clove, an earthy yeastiness, and very tame leafy, weedy, and floral noble hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, wheat crackers, wet banana chips, muddled earthy spice, a fading musty yeast character, and more understated herbal, leafy, and floral green hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly low-key in its swirling and twirling frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, with nothing in particular fussing about here. It finishes trending dry, the grainy and dried banana esters seeing us out the side door.
Overall - this comes across as a proper rendition of the venerable old-school style, with lots of the expected flavours abounding. And with an expertly integrated, north of 7 points of the ol' wowee sauce, I should mind my outdoor exposure for the time being, at least.
