Now I'd like to clear up that I am a big fan of 4 Noses, and I think they generally make delicious and unique beers. That said, this is a bit of a mess. I actually really liked the Pineapple Velvet, and I hope they bring it back, but I'm not nearly as enamored with the blueberry version.

L: Looks gorgeous with the blueberry juice. The body pours an opaque dark mauve with a thin layer of light pink head like a tuft of cotton candy. Lacing is sparse but attractive.

S: Sweet blueberry puree is first on the nose, followed by the tart bitterness of the skins. I'm not sure if it's a clash with the hops, or just too much underripe blueberry in the recipe, but I get a bitter planty note like loroco that seems deeply out of place. From here, vanilla and milk sugar take over, lending a birthday cake impression. It's quite like smelling a lightly sweetened milkshake with blueberry jam.

T: Again, there is something about this beer that clashes with its blueberries. Not sure if it's the hops, or the lactose, or just the way blueberries ferment in ale yeast (because this is the first beer I've had with blueberries), but I don't like it very much. I've enjoyed most other beers I've had from these guys, but this one is just strange. I'm gonna blame the lactose, because I don't think I've ever been impressed with how lactose affects a beer's flavor (even in a milk stout), and it's definitely responsible for increasing the cloying nature of this brew.

F: This one is all sweetness and creaminess. Thick and milkshakey, although I wouldn't call it syrupy. I think the hazy brewing style helps keep the feel tolerably fluffy, but it's pretty damn rich; I think it could stand being a a little drier.

O: Meh. Cool concept. Kudos for working with blueberries. It's an idea that has merit. But did they nail it? Absolutely not.
