barrel aged sour brown ale with cranberries. a pricey little bottle, but its beautifully packaged with the other fruited versions of this in the series, and its worth the money, really it is. a nice tangy brown, full bodied and woody, bacterial, and mature, with the cranberries that really drop the ph, accentuate the sourness, and add a pucker to this that was not present to the same extent in the raspberry version they did. i love how forward the fruit is, how highly dosed it is, it even takes on a little of that pithy dry texture of a real cranberry. its funny, my lady and i were looking for cranberry beers for the holidays, and this is one of the only ones we could find, but it blew both of our minds. i think the sour brown as a base is genius for this (and for the other fruits they used), because its so unconventional as a style to add fruit to. i almost never see that, and the cranberry in particular is a very complimentary flavor. the chocolate flavors in the malt here remind be of those little dried chocolate covered cranberries you find in fancy trail mix, and the citrusy notes in the sour profile remind be of like a thanksgiving cranberry sauce, its pretty awesome to have both in the same place. its real sour, but has some body to extend it a little, and its quite dry in the finish. overall an extremely impressive beer. happy for these guys to have come this far so quickly. wholly unique!
