It sounds crazy in my head, considering that this is a stout flavored with coffee and vanilla, but it's true so I've got to say it; this is a refreshingly simple stout. No barrels, no double digit abv, and flavoring adjuncts added with a deft touch to support and enhance the typical rich malt flavors of a stout. It certainly has a coffee drink vibe to it, but I could easily be convinced that was just a trick of the malts. And the vanilla lends a certain rich depth to the flavor that is wonderful without asserting itself as star of the show. Very nice beer
Wonderful dark chestnut liquid capped by a cappuccino worthy mound of mocha foam. Absolutely beautiful.
Nose is mild with a soft vanilla note over mildly toasted bread.
Taste is oh so smooth. Rich chocolatey coffee notes lead the way followed up by a nice deep hazelnut/vanilla base note. Strikes a wonderful balance of tasting like a stout that is flavored rather than tasting like some sort of sweet coffee drink.
Mouthfeel is on the thin side of the modern pastry/big barrel stout spectrum but it's just perfect for me. Absolutely full bodied, but not cloying or syrupy. Not out of the question to drink a couple of pints.
