Served in a tulip.
Appearance: purplish-amber color with slight haze. The head spritzes vigorously but fades quickly.
Aroma: slight lacto funk and light, fresh blackberry. Not many layers of aroma. This smells like a thirst quencher.
Flavor: tart and refreshing. The blackberry is prominent, followed by a slight funk resembling cheese. As with the nose, there are few depths of flavor.
Mouthfeel: light-medium. Spot on for a thirst quencher.
Overall: this was enjoyable but not a repeat purchase. 1-dimensional. I can’t say I was disappointed with this beer, but I did have higher expectations given some of Baere’s ratings and reviews on BA. Baere’s “Table Sours” are listed as both Berliner Weisses and Wild Ales on Beer Advocate. Given the 1-dimensional nature of this beer, I think it is closer to a Berliner Weisse than a Wild Ale, especially given that this is kettle soured.
I wouldn’t buy the other fruit variants of this beer, but I will try Baere’s other sours (not their kettle sours) when given the opportunity.
