still no category for generic american kettle sour here on BA, which is an omission i think, as this isnt a classic berliner, but probably closer to that for categorization purposes than anything else on here now. this is a great beer, and a nice series of beers really, cool that they are keeping them going with different fruits, fruity ones i like better than the hoppy ones they used to do, and i like the large format bottles, this is definitely one to drink a couple of, its not too sour for that, and the low alcohol and fresh fruit character both lend to increased drinkablity for the style. usually i am not a huge fan of the quick fruited sour, but baere has delivered a higher quality beer than most here, with a gorgeous purple density to it, looks like purple grape in the glass, a nice head on it too shows some nice carbonation, and its so juicy and fruity, its almost more like a kids drink than beer, almost a guilty pleasure for me. there is some grain character here though, more in body than in taste but it keeps it beery enough, and there is a little more yeast character than i am used to in beer like this, light funk or even a saison type ester to it, not totally neutral, which i think is flattering with all the fruit. the berry is piquant and natural, like a cross between blackberry and cranberry when i taste it, very true to the fruit, not sweet at all, and clean in the finish. they did a really fantastic job with this one, highly recommended for a drinkable and flavorful fruity sour ale.
