i still cant believe we have a no category here on BA for generic sour, kettle sour, whatever, its a shame, this isnt a berliner necessarily as a base, but its probably closer than calling it an american wild ale. in any event, its hardly about the fermentation profile here, much more about the hops, strata is coming on strong right now, and this is a great illustration of why, its so fruity, clean, and interesting, definitely stands out as something different if you are unfamiliar with it, and its just packed with fruity white wine character, passion fruit, weed oil, pineapple, mango, its next level, and also has some citrus bitterness to it, seems like a sort of jack of all trade hops, and what the lower ph of this base beer extracts from it is special. i think that higher acid element helps set the hops up well, even if there is nothing chemically unique happening, although i suspect there is. its tart but not too sour, nothing sharp or abrasive, just lemony and refreshing, easy on the palate and the belly, and adds not detracts from refreshment and drinkability. they have found the right balance with their table sour series, so clean too. the hops are cool, i get some coconut in the nose, some bitter citrus in the taste, a vanilla hint too, its got a savory and oily sweet aspect along with the fruit. fresh as heck, well made, and another fine installment of this series. perfect for this time of year, and an excellent patio beer!
