batch 1, a collaboration with mollys and a downright amazing beer, thanks a ton to my buddy for bringing this up from denver to share. its a mixed culture imperial golden sour type base, aged in bourbon barrels and dosed with blackberry, vanilla, and cinnamon, super cool art on the bottle, massively impressive beer, baere has never gotten enough attention! almost a red wine color to it, some shine, a short lived fizzy head, and a tantalizing nose of tangy blackberry with dark cherry and raspberry notes along with it, even a hint of medicinal currant, along with fall mulling spices, sweet vanilla, heady bourbon, and just trace alcohol, this hides its strength crazy well though, i never would have guessed it to be this strong! the base beer is awesome, super woody and funky, the bourbon and the sour complex go well together, which isnt always the case, but the vanilla addition could be a catalyst for that. a little bit of a red wine vinegar pucker here, sharp like that, but clean at the same time, the funk is all on the front end. it starts more wild than it finishes, and i get tart blackberry and blueberry jam in the second half with the baked vibe, warm cinnamon, rich bourbon, it really does have a cobbler vibe, unexpected in a sour, but it works! its way more carbonated than it shows in the glass, doesnt even have all that much body for its strength, obviously employs a nicer quality bourbon barrel, and keeps the alcohol at bay. really excellent beer, exceedingly sour as it warms, but perfect as summer turns to autumn! i love these guys, stoked on this one!
