This is a big boozy beast of a beer. Pitch black with a dark brown head.
The nose has spicy, cola like, elements as well as a sharp boozy bite over top of a rich roasted malt bed.
Taste follows with a spicy, rye whisky booze hit leading the way and dominating the scene. A charred oak coffee trails behind. The body is thin and a bit prickly.
If you're a rye whiskey fan, this one brings that. It's a big and impressive punch in the mouth. But beyond that plucky pizazz it's pretty one dimensional. Definitely doesn't stand out from a crowded field of ba stouts in the market today. I applaud the move to go big in the boozy and barrel-y direction though. Definitely better than the sweet pastry move for my palate

Blended Laws Whiskey Barrel Aged Stout. I tried this beer while on a brewery vacation in Denver, CO, love it. It's not overly sweet or thick, had a smooth aftertaste, and didn't have the overbearing "alcohol" taste most brews with a high alcohol content have. It's extremely dark and the hint of whiskey from the barrels is on point.
