Name: Chocolate Black Ryeday
Brewery: Baere Brewing
Location: Denver, CO
Style: Dessert Imperial Stout
ABV: 8.2%
Date: unknown
After a wild weekend, I grabbed a few beers from my road trip. The temperature is 46 degrees and served in a tulip glass. The pour created a frothy, creamy two-fingered light tan head with average retention. The slow dissipation left chunks of lacing on the glass. Charting the color around SRM 36, dark brown, nearly black. The appearance is above average.
Nosing the glass, I smell dark chocolate, fennel, caraway, espresso, dark roasted malts, molasses, caramel, earthiness, a hint of floral, toasted crusted bread, and a slight hint of char. The aromas remind me of rye and pumpernickel bread.
The flavors are smoky, chocolate, fennel, caraway, molasses, caramel, floral, dark roasted malts, medium roasted coffee, Maillard, char, and bready.
The mouthfeel is coated and dry. The body is medium plus, has a medium light carbonation, and a lasting finish.
I enjoyed this beer a lot; the smokiness threw me off. However, a tasty imperial stout, and glad I got to try it. Taste like rye bread soaked in chocolate and beer, intriguing but tasty.
