Forged in collaboration with Hammerheart Brewing Co. in Ely, MN, Graor: Alder the Grey is a Nordic Porter that channels the spirit of the north into liquid for. Alderwood smoked malt weaves through layers of chocolate, caramel, and roasted barley like fog through frozen pines, while our haus-made botanical tincture of juniper, peppercorn, birchwood, cardamom, and rosemary conjures the raw essence of nordic wilderness. This hauntingly smooth tribute to the woods pours jet black at 8.8% abv, 28 IBU.

Appearance: Black, good head.
Smell: Roasted malts, hint of pine.
Taste: Mild sweetness then a complex mix of chocolate, roasted malts, and somewhat sweet smoke. Alderwood seems to give a sweeter smoke than other woods. Gives a little piney note, probably from the juniper. Full bodied. Finishes with a nice long lingering smokiness.
Overall: Ran out to grab some of this collaboration as soon as I saw it. Bauhaus and Hammerheart’s previous collab was tasty, and this one is another winner. Nice mix of standard porter flavors with the alderwood smoke and the botanical tincture doesn’t get completely buried.
