A red, creamy stout. Heaven on earth. By far the best beer I've ever had. Sad to see it's gone the way of the dinosaur.

I'll have to make due with memories and Murphy's!

Of course Guinness and Beamish stouts are nice, but the creaminess of Murphy's, and the lack of chemicals, has won me over.

Draught beer (25cl.), tasted in 2008 (Live Bar in Nantes).

Appearance : amber color, with white foam head.
Smell :
Taste and mouthfeel : mild, sweet and malty, a slight fruity bitterness lost in the sweetness.
Drinkability : an average beer in the style Irish red ale.

On tap (cold flow i assume) at the Clontarf Castle Hotel, Dublin...

Poured a light orange / amber colour... Creamy tan head poured with typical nitro thickness and lasted pretty well throughout with lots of thick lacing coating the glass most of the way down...

Aroma - Pretty nondescript.... some light caramel maltiness, light fruitiness (some oranges and maybe some figs), faint biscuit notes, bready, light spicy hints...

Taste – As with the stout this was served way too cold so it was pretty hard to make anything out... some lightly toasted caramel maltiness, bready traces, very light fruits (bitter oranges, some apples ?), quite salty, some very light nutty sweetness, faint pepperiness....

Feel - Very smooth and creamy... medium... too bland too be drinkable...

Overall - A very dull Irish Red Ale which was served way too cold.... sadly i don't think it would have been much better served at the correct temperature...

Well across the board its an average brew. It had a very obvious redish hue. The head was thick biut not dense and it lasted till i drank half of the mug. Taste was good with some toasted malt and hints of frute. it felt medium bodied in my mouth but was pleasent and i enjoyed the aftertaste which was like bread.

Basically, ordinary. Has a good caramel, malty, lightly hopy and yeasty aroma. Flavors of basic malt, toasty malt, caramel and a twinge of yeast flavor--almost bread. Mildly syrupy. Medium (at best) in the body and coats the mouth with a creamy softness. Mild grainy quality--not to detract. Finishes clean and soft, with a little residual amber malt flavor. Aftertaste is a little sweet (caramelly) and vaguely bitter. Good beer, but easily forgetable.

Nitro Draught: There is a ruby-amber color to the beer. A little too much nitro in my pour, as it took forever to settle, and then the bar-keep had to dump some off and finish the pour. Needless to say, a huge head on mine. The taste is a bit sweet with a touch of hops. A bit creamy. Nothing spectacular, but a good session beer.

On tap in Cork, Ireland

This is what the younger crowd in Cork considers to be a session beer. I have a friend there who loves it and a session we had. A relative newcomer to the Beamish lineup (mid to late 90's); this ale is very light (despite its deceptive color), and thus doesn't fill one up after hefting a few back. Probably meant to rival Killians, at least in the "Irish Red Ale" sense. This beer may be better on tap than in the can considering the other reviews posted. It's creamy, light and about 4.5 ABV think. Not bad, but fairly nondescript just the same.

Do I just know nothing about beer? This is definetly one of the most mediocre brews Ive ever tasted.

Although it pours an interesting caramelly tone with a thin coat for a creamy head, I discarded the weakness of the smell as my own, considering the barlike enclosed circumstances.

However, the taste proved me right. Because there is none. It is perfectly unidentifiable although youd be able to sense the actual bitterness of the beer, but, since this has no background it just makes it gross. no carbonation either. No nothing. this will pass on in history as mediocre gone...mediocre.

Must be a nitro widget in that can pours a creamy red with a nice lookin head, not much aroma here slight malt aroma but got some of the can in the aroma.A decent roasted malt taste here though very earthy and nutty, pretty try not to sweet here. Not a horrible brew by any means but hey even a Killians matches up well with this one.

Some of my friends love this beer, and it completely befuddles me. Sure, it's enjoyable. But the first time a pal of mine had it, I thought the Cubbies won the World Series or something.

This beer suffers from being plain. The taste is very mild, and the aroma is nothing special -- gave me a "an ale is an ale is an ale" impression. I didn't particularly enjoy the taste. It had a very light flavor to it for how deep and rich the beer looked.

But here's the part that really gets me. It's supremely creamy. (It's so creamy that while I never *saw* the tap, I had to assume it was a nitro tap -- a nitro tap that produced such a dense head and creamy beer that perhaps it was a nitro tap that regularly consumed a protein shake.) It feels like I'm quaffing a pint of half-and-half -- not beer. From my drinking, a thick, creamy body is generally associated with some robust flavor. Not so in this case. It was like creamy water. Very odd.

I can't have more than one or my stomach feels unsettled. But I have friends who'll guzzle it all night long at the Irish bar we go to across the border in Windsor, Ontario. Just a bit off the mark for my tastes.
