From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This excellent little
red pours a red tinged amber color with a nice head of
white foam that subsides to a thick ring, thin dusty layer,
and shows light lacing. Nose of subtle grain notes, caramel
malt and subtle toffee with faint hops. Flavors rock out the
style with toffee and caramel malts over light herbal hops
and balanced grain notes. Nice mouth feel; medium light
body, medium light carbonation, and a lightly dry yet
VERY quenching finish.
Overall---it's a red ale, one would not expect stellar, that
said it is just what the doctor ordered after mowing
the lawn or cooking BBQ.
Cheers

On tap at the brewery.
A - Dark amber red pour with no lacing and no carbonation.
S - Overall aroma is anemically light. Some earthiness with toasted toffee malt can be detected (barely).
T - Toasted caramel malt, some grain character, a little earthiness, and ends with a slight citrus/pine bitterness.
M - Medium body with some delicate prickly carbonation.
O - Balanced from start to finish and an easy drinker. Falls flat on the nose.

A-nice very dark red. Medium khaki head that stayed around and leaves a creamy top. Heavy lacing.
S-not too much to it. A good balance of malts and hops. Slightly grassy like a cream ale or lager.
T- a good malt taste with some earthiness. Starts to have some apricot and nuts come out.
F- very smooth and creamy. Slightly dry, but not enough to be a "dry" beer. Great drinkability.
O- good beer. Could see it being in my fridge again.

The best thing about this beer was the color. Lives up the "Red" in the name. I thought this beer was watery. Something off about the feel of this one. Taste just okay, but can not get past the feel.. Would not order again.

Very drinkable, smooth and clean tasting. Great with poultry or fish or just to have a few on the deck if your At Big Woods.

Good and clean looking red ale. It is the atmosphere that turns this beer into a winner. It is very nutty and unresponsive at the same time. The Big Woods Brewery is an awesome place to go for the day if you live in the area. We make a trip there every few months.
