Poured into a disposable plastic cup per their COVID protocols. Purchased for $5.07 at the bar in-brewery. Reviewing this here now, from notes I wrote on a napkin two days ago.
L - Zero head, pitch black. Poured very thick.
S - Extremely unusual. Espresso, mint, and Starbucks pumpkin spice mix. A bit of a floral hoppiness, but it was quickly faded out by a strong truffle-like aroma.
T - Bitter cinnamon, a bit of stale black coffee, and black licorice. Cigarette ash finish.
F - Zero carbonation, full body. Though it poured thick, it was relatively thin. Dehydrating.
O - Yes, I realize this review sounds extremely off-putting for an Oktoberfest brew. It was displayed on the tap list as an Oktoberfest brew, with a cartoon lady in proper Bavarian garb. I was fully prepared for what laid ahead - a rural brewery putting out a wonderfully refreshing and tasty Märzen or the like. The moment I saw the cursed black pour, I asked the bartender if that was actually the Oktoberfest. He replied with, "Yes, it's our Oktoberfest beer, brewed with pumpkin spice and coffee grounds." At this point, I gave it a shot, regretted ordering the glass, and ordered a water. Friends, I understand that brewing can be an extremely personal process, but sometimes with certain results it's downright terrible. As an Oktoberfest beer, this is an immediate zero. As a properly-categorized adjunct lager, it's still awful. All of the flavors work against each other. I almost wanted to blame it on a bad keg, but when I sampled it from a freshly-installed one, it's the same thing! This beer is - without a single doubt - the worst beer I've ever had so far. Do not purchase it, unless your tastebuds don't work and you simply want to support local business.
