101 Brewery is attached to the Twana Roadhouse in Quilcene. It's easy to not even notice the separate door into the taproom or the entryway inside the restaurant.
The restaurant was sparsely populated on the afternoon of our visit and the taproom completely empty. Lots of wood adorns the room and the bartop is a nice looking slab of reclaimed wood. A server from the dining room actually came over and poured our beers and then quickly departed. It almost felt like the taproom was an afterthought. No one manned the bar, and no one checked on us during our visit. I suppose if we had wanted more beer we would have been forced to go back to the dining room and find someone to pour us more.
We tried the stout and pale. Both beers seemed to have a promising base but still need some work. The stout was roasty as the menu promised but sadly watery too. It definitely lacked depth. I'm not one for sweet beers but this seemed like it could use some specialty malts to liven the flavor profile up a bit. The pale seemed like it too could use a tweak. There was some nice hoppiness to it but also some herbal notes that seemed to clash with the hops and malt profile.
This place definitely has potential. With a bit more care in terms of presentation and service and some recipe adjustment, they'll be headed in the right direction.
