A very strong pour from a groweler purchased at the brewery yields a 1/2 finger of light beige fizzy foam with short retention and minimal lacing. Hazy light brown, Brown ale look.
Tea and green apple, some caramel malt and faint hops for the smell, in the taste as well.
Neutral sweetness and mildly bitter start, coffee flavor is ahead of the malt sweetness. The long finish is bitter, astringent (roasted malt) and semi dry. Faint hops in the after taste.
Medium light bodied, below average carbonation. Smooth at first, a little gritty end.
Very little red in the color, hazy with light CO2. The malt bill (caramel and roasted) is on spot but on the lean side, the coffee gives it a Porter-like taste. Light on body, not true to style.

I love Irish Reds, they are typically just light enough to have more than 2, and yet heavy enough to feel full and satisfied. The Redsmith at Whaler's had a more sweet consistency than most Irish Reds, but I thought it was fantastic. This ale had small chocolate notes to it as well, but still stuck to a traditional biscuit mouth feel. Color was on the dark side, which is what I prefer. The Brewers there were excited to introduce it, so I hope RI will see it again.

Poured 10/19/15 from a 32oz growler that was filled at the brewery on 10/9/15, into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep golden brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains caramelized malts, honey, some fruit and some hops.

T: The taste starts out with some sweetness from flavors of caramel, honey and fruit. Then some breadiness comes in from a hearty malt character. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly bready.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.
