Walnut brown, smooth, and with a distinctive sweetness, Three Bears Porter is a throwback to the Pre-Prohibition Porters of old. Brewed with healthy amounts of blackstrap molasses, Three Bears has the fortitude to carry you through the ancient mountains of Appalachia or the starkest peaks of Patagonia.

A mahogany red color with slight walnut colors in the body as it forms. Head retention is decent, starts out at a finger, finalizes at a thin ring.

Aromas of solid tree nut, wood, some chocolate, slight lactose powder.

Flavors are basically nutty with hints of dry cocoa, coffee bean, and woody notes. Jabs of lactose float in and out.

Feel is very carbonated, with a dry and crisp finish.

Overall, it's okay but nothing to get excited about. New brewery off my list!

A: Pours an almost opaque yet still clear dark cola brown in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation and moderate garnet red highlights. The beer has a finger tall foamy tan head that quickly reduces to a large patch of thin film covering about 98% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of lightly roasted malts with a light aroma of dark fruit (fig), chocolate, and molasses.

T: Upfront there is a just shy of moderate flavor of lightly roasted + dark malts with a light to moderate amount of dark fruit (fig) and molasses sweetness. There is a light amount of earthy hops in the finish. Light amounts of roasty bitterness which fades away pretty quickly.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly thin.

O: Slightly thin in body but still enjoyable and quite easy to drink with well hidden alcohol. Definitely feels like a throwback style of porter and a beer that I could easily have a couple of... Might have to get this one again.

Look: It pours dark brown with a brown head that doesn't have good head retention and breaks up quickly.

Smell: It has aromas that appear to be mailliard, a slightly dark fruit note, and a note of molasses.

Taste: There is a sweet malt note with some maillard and a slight dark fruit note. There is also a slight bit of molasses and roast.

Feel: It has a moderate body on the light side with a malty sweet finish.

Overall: The flavor combinations are a bit sweet, but the combination is fairly good.

Pours a dark reddish brown with a head that dissipates quickly. Taste is ok, sweet malt but , for me, minimal mouthfeel. It does come in 6 pack of 12oz. cans which is nice but I don't think I will be repeating this one.

Dark beer but see through. Dark reddish brown with a light tan head that leaves very little lacing. Nice roasted malt aroma with with a little chocolate. The taste is pretty straightforward with a nice sweetness and chocolate complimented by roastiness. Really nice basic porter that is well crafted.
