April 2002: (Cask In Northern England.) Milds are really not my favourite style among cask ales - most of them are, well, too mild... However, this one is probably about as good as a mild can get.

Drank in the British Legion Club, Dawley. This keg version was jet black in colour and had a firm white head which stayed to the end of the pint.

The aroma was of caramel and burnt malt, with undertones of chocolate.

The taste was also of burnt malt, caramel and chocolate, but with the added strange hint of mushrooms somewhere in the flavour. Add to that a sweet overtone, which tries to mask out the other flavours and you end up with a strange but not unpleasant taste.

The taste stayed a while in the mouth and overall, it was OK.
