Crafted by head brewer Mark Slater, Theakston Peculier IPA was created to live up to the legendary status of our iconic ‘Peculier’ name. Originally brewed as a seasonal ale, its bold flavour and exceptional quality earned it a permanent place in our core range.
Brewed with 100% British ingredients, Peculier IPA pays tribute to the historic origins of India Pale Ale — a beer style born in the 19th century to accompany British troops on long sea voyages to India. The high hop content and alcohol strength were designed to preserve the beer’s freshness, creating a robust, characterful ale that has since inspired a global brewing phenomenon.
Today, with renewed excitement around IPA styles and the wealth of traditional ingredients grown in Britain, our brewing team has brought their full creativity to bear. The result? A beer that honours tradition while embracing modern craftsmanship.
Theakston Peculier IPA is brewed with the finest of British malted barley and three new world, English grown hops - Harlequin, Jester and Olicana to deliver a velvety texture, a honeyed fruit aroma, and a beautifully balanced finish. It's a beer that celebrates the very best of British brewing — bold, refreshing, and uncompromisingly Peculier.

Can best before Sept 2026
Pours a frothy creamy 1 finger head with good retention, sticky lacing, clear golden pale to tan color

Nose brings earthy herbal UK style hops, forest floor earthy, a touch of citrus and pine, light sweet malt, mild fruity notes

Taste brings more UK style herbal earthy hops, forest floor and a bit mushroomy, leafy pine, mossy grass, fair bitterness, a bit of citrus, fruity esters from the yeast likely, light doughy malt, grainy, med to a bit higher spicy hop bitterness lingering forever on the semi dry finish

Mouth is med bod, med to a bit lower carb

Overall nice, def nails the English IPA, good hop characters, some balance but nice bitterness on the finish, fruity ester notes, just enough malt for support

Pours a beautiful brassy yellow topped with a beautiful thick white head that leaves nice lacing down the glass.
Smells like English hops and some sweet biscuit, a little citrus.
Nice highly attenuated finish.
Overall, I really like it.
It's definitely not as aggressively hopped as some, but it's very enjoyable.

500ml brown glass bottle.
L: Clear, dark gold colour with one finger of head that recedes to a bubbly cap with spotty lacing.
S: Light and sugary.
T: Lots of caramel and barley sugar with a touch of citrus. Semi-sweet with light bitterness.
F: Medium body, an oily mouthfeel, some carbonation and a dry-ish finish.
O: An IPA with a profile closer to an elevated golden ale. A refreshing pale ale with an amplified flavour profile and a higher ABV. More bitterness please.

Very clear copper in color. Thin off white head. Nose is very malty as is the taste. Not very much bitterness as I would want in my IPA. Easy drinking beer.
