Olhão 13/7 2016. 33 cl bottle from Continente Modelo Supermarket. Very Black and serious looking label. And a big golden hop to illustrate what this is all about.
Pours hazy yellow with a great white head. Stable. Settles as a 0,5 cm thick layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. No lacing to speak of.
Aroma is not very strong. Some fresh fruity elderberries, tangerine and peach.
Medium strong carbonation and slightly thick palate. Lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is nicely balanced between a fruity sweetness and a hoppy bitterness. Aftertaste is medium bitter.
More pleasant than extreme. A pilsner with good bitter twist.

Champagne with legs. 3.75
Rotten corn stalks! 3.25
Grain, some sugar, a musty middle, and grass + spice end. 3.75
Crisp + light. 4
Good beer, bad storage. Malts could be cleaner but hops are actually there. Still, hoped for more from this crowd. 3.75

Poured to a Brouwerij't IJ glass.
A: The appearance is not very food since the carbonation is held in the sides of the glass. The head was formed when pouring resulting in a two finger thick white head but after ~2min it was completely gone.
A: The aroma is very rich having a balanced approach to yeast, malt and citrus. Wasn't expecting to find this much yeast and citrus but it's a really good surprise.
T: The taste isn't as good as the aroma because here you can only taste malts with a bitterness that is a bit harsh. However, it's basically good for it's simplicity and straightfowardness.
M: Density is low to médium. Carbonation is high. Bitterness is a bit harsh and it's not felt after a while.
O: This is probably the most 'basic' beer I've ever had from Maldita and probably, the best pilsner I've had coming from the craft beer world.

Review based on BJCP2014 guidelines - Draft (style 2A). Bottle 50 cl - Batch L01614A. AROMA: some traces of DMS present, mixed with faint malty aromas. hop aromas very faint. APPEARANCE: almost clear gold color with huge white head. good retention. TASTE: sweet malty flavour with some esters noticeable. very faint resinous hop flavours. médium-high bitterness. finishes very dry. PALATE: médium-low body with moderately-high carbonation. OVERALL: although a bit unbalanced on the bitterness side and with some defect aromas, a good try at a traditional pale lager.
