Thank you, Mike. While this is labeled a farmhouse ale, this is closer to a sahti/gruit than a saison. Paired with Earth, a band and genre I don't typically enjoy, and friends whose company I do, this beer was brilliant.
A dark brown with a dense, off white head with good retention and lacing, this looks great. The nose is a brilliant blend of juniper, buckwheat honey, grain and a little spruce. The juniper character is so encompassing, with a resin and an aromatic component. The palate opens with a big juniper character, resiny, oily, mildly bite and plenty flavorful. The grainy notes from the base malt, a blend of darker grains, mildly brooding ( an arguably strange description, but the best I can come up with) cocoa and resiny juniper work beautifully together. Medium in body, moderately carbonated and with a long lasting juniper heavy finish with a little spruce, this beer is excellent.
