*Drank nearly 11 months beyond sell-by date.
Pours seal brown with a modest cap of light brown foam. Aroma smells of chocolate, roasted malt, molasses, peat, and caramel.
Mild taste features burnt, roasted malt and mellow, earthy hops. Barrel notes come through in the second wave. Medium body and negligible carbonation make for something of a flat, slick mouthfeel.
It's hard to give this a fair shake given it's a year beyond its sell-by date. It was noticeably flat and the flavor profile came across as muted and disjointed. With that said, most barrel-aged stouts still retain at least some of their luster in the long run, so the jury is still out on what to make of this in its native state.

Dark brown color with tan head. Aroma has sweet notes like chocolate, raisins, booze soaked cherries, cola, brown sugar and rum. Taste starts quite bitter up-front with intense roastiness, coffee, dark chocolate, ash and peat. In the middle you get barrel notes like old wood and booze. Finish is bitter and roasty. Full bodied, low carbonation, feels a bit stale. It's not a bad beer but for my taste it's too intense on the roasted flavors, almost going into peat. Also, the barrel aging comes through only as booze and old wood character.
