500ml Bottle conditioned: best before Jan 2012, poured into my ‘Abbot Ale’ glass tankard on 24th Aug 2012.
Had this in cask form back in 2010 and it got an OK then.
The beer is dark brown, almost black in fact, a tanned head hung around for a while before it subsided into a thin wisp and collar.
The nose was smoked hams and peat bogs (like the cask version): some chocolate notes in the esters, didn’t pick those up when having the cask pint.
The taste followed along as expected: dark chocolate, smoky notes and ground coffee.
Medium bodied and although slightly sweet it did have a mild hop bitter finish: liked it a bit more than the cask one.

Black. Abundant brown foam.
In the smell there is a strong coal smokiness, malt and coffee.
The taste is intense and resolute, with a good smokiness, a good roastiness, and coffee. Resolute.
Even the aftertaste is quite strong and decide, and persistent, with strong smoky and roasted notes. Quite long.
Good body.
Maybe it is a little "extreme", but good.
