North Slope Brewing Company "Crushed"
12 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
$1.99 @ Wegmans, King of Prussia, PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: So what is this? There's no style listed on the label, just "malt beverage with natural flavor", and no flavor suggested. Let's read what else it has to say... "high octane" (there's no real octane in it, right?), "light and refreshing smooth cream ale", "gently hopped... mild German hops... floral undertones", "blood orange flavor", and "adult creamsicle". OK, I got it. So I thought it would be cloudy but it's not, it''s sightly hazy and it's got a nice amber color to it. The head is a short cap of white. It's floral, fruity, and sweetish in the nose, but also a little like a cleaning chemical. I'm not really getting a specific fruit but there is definitely an orange component to it. Tangerine, apricot, whatever. It's OK. It's a little weird but it's not off-putting. So much for "natural" flavors, huh? On to the flavor... it's sweetish but not too sweet, and there is definitely a blood orange flavor to it. I think I might be finding some floral hops as well but I'm not sure. There's some grainy malt there as well. It's kind of a one-trick pony but it's OK, it's at least nicely balanced. It's medium bodied and smooth with a moderate carbonation level that seems to help it overall. Good job on that.
