Sadly the brewery is now closed and up for sale, so this review of a 500ml brown bottle will most likely be the last one on BA for this beer.

The 4.4%ABV bottle had a before use date of Aug 2010, so it is three weeks out of date today: poured into my newish 'Abbot Ale' glass tankard.

It is a horrible day outside and I'm dog sitting, this is a 'live' review! Frankie, the black Labrador Retriever doesn't say much, but looks interested as I pour the beer, not that he is getting any.

Lovely amber, copper coloured body, good white foaming crown on top, the beer looks clear and inviting.

The nose is mostly malts, some citrus notes like the cask version, but not as fruity.

The taste is creamy and malty, with a good hop bitterness blended within it. Very easy to drink and I'll miss this breweries beers. I still have a couple of others to review though, so although the brewery has gone I'll remember their beers for a bit longer yet!

BB Aug. 07, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.

A: bright amber hue, with a fast retreating off-white fluffy foam and sporadic fizziness.
S: candyish and lightly burned-sugary malts plus Saaz-like grassy hop as well as floral aroma, backed by a light flow of sweet citric fruitiness--one dimentional and simplistic.
T: very restrained in flavour—a mild flow of thin-bodied burned-sugary as well as faintly biscuity malts quickly lead to a flat-textured dried-leafy and neutrally-flavoured hop bitterness with a belated, surprisingly lingering dry-ish and mildly tannic palate, which is perhaps the consolation prize in the whole performance…
M&D: way too thin and the body simply falls apart all over the place… in particular the shallow fizziness drives it way apart from any English ale of ordinary quality… Overall, only the dryish hoppy aftertaste salvages this beer from a total failure or complete boredom. Not recommended.
