330ml bottle poured into pint glass 4/7/14

A hazy pale yellow, enough clarity to see bubbles everywhere, two fingers of noisy, soapy foam fizzes out after a few sips leaving no lace

S banana, clove, more spice I can't place, dry cereal, faint lemon peel, floral notes, basic but decent

T faint bubblegum and more citrus peel then the nose, wheat come out a little more, again its OK but nothing stands out

M medium bodied but it just turns to foam in the mouth and stays foam, I think I'm swallowing a fair bit of air drinking this, spicy and cereal on the finish

O pretty basic Wit, its just missing a little something, drinkable but nothing special

I'd take the 6er of Blanche De Chambly on the same shelf for the same price every day of the week, just another one and done

Tried a pint on tap at Beer Revolution in Calgary. A light cloudy yellow orange color with the typical Beer Revolution decanted low level of white head. Aroma does include the requisite citrus, coriander, and caramelized wheat elements but there's a hefeweizen-like dose of banana chips as well. This latter character carries over onto the palate, banana bread and cinnamon or cola-like brown spice notes (?!) with some legit Belgian-style funkiness (leather and yeasty vitamin tablet?) , caramel corn, and pleasantly amped-down coriander (yes! This style is not supposed to kill you via seed spice). Holy crap, these guys have nailed this style even if this take is a tad hefe-like. For once the Belgian moniker fits like a glove and this does not taste like Rickards White. The finish does not disappoint either, notably dry, funky, and almost earthy. Can see myself sharing a six-pack with discerning buddies on the deck later this summer.

 

 

 

 

 

Tastes a lot more like a Hefe than a Wit mostly due to the big banana flavours in the finish and the hefe like nose. That being said it is a satisfying beer with plenty of flavour and a nice big mouthfeel. Better than most BC wheat beers this is a nice step up for a young brewery.

This beer pours a hazy, murky golden yellow colour, with one finger of flat foamy, somewhat bubbly dirty white head, which leaves a few low-lying streaks of peninsular lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of semi-sweet banana chips, a mild orange peel fruitiness, some faintly spicy coriander, and a subtle earthy yeastiness. The taste is grainy pale malt, a touch of astringent wheatiness, which resolves into a certain fresh-bought banana breadiness, with some pithy clove and white pepper notes, quite underwhelming in their spiciness. A pushy hint of vegetal yeast hangs onto an outside perimeter.

The bubbles are rather complacent and well sublimated, the body a decent medium weight, and actually pretty smooth. It finishes well off-dry, the pale malt, banana, and shy yeast all working it to keeps things on the level.

Well colour me tickled - this is at least an order of magnitude, style-wise, better than the preceding offerings from this brewery. Which doesn't quite place it amongst the worldbeaters out there, but it's at least worthy of a go, especially at this time of year - with the obvious caveats of style preference, and a freaking patio on such a perfect June evening.
