Sampled under it's alias of "Holdens Black Country Bitter" at a JBW pub. Cask (pint).
Light amber colour that is pretty transparent & is topped by a pinky-sized foamy, white head that is reduced to a soapy lacing after a minute or two.
A grainy & fruity aroma that has hints of dark summer fruits and a little toffee too. It contains some citrus & grassy hops too but not a lot.
Slightly fruity although it's not as strong as in other ales. The bitter finish is a mild one that is enjoyable but the flavour is lacking somewhat.
Warm & smooth pint that has a medium bodied & feels quite thick.
Not a pleasant ale if I'm honest, it is pretty straightforward & lacking in flavour.

500ml brown bottle, best before Oct 2010, poured in my small 'La Chouffe' tulip glass three times (on Saturday 21 Aug 2010).
Looked a picture, bright golden/light amber body with a lovely snow white foaming crown on top for each pour.
Grainy aroma, with a subtle hop presence around too.
The flavours blend well, hops dominate the initial taste, but the malts come through as the mouth warms the beer up, only for the hops to win the day as a bitterness arrives as the mouth dries.
I like Holden's beers, they are uncomplicated, honest and very drinkable. I am suprised I haven't reviewed a few more, because I regularly drink their beers on cask. I'll rectify that soonest and ensure all their beers appear on BA.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
