zesty sour ale here built for summer with goldenberry and pineapple, a neat combination of fruit in pretty high dosage here, relatively clean sour base, lots of flavor, pineapple more obvious and distinctive, but i can get some of the natural acidity and unique almost medicinal character of the goldenberry too, particularly in the nose, and both fruits seem to love the acidity of the base beer, cool drink overall. nothing crazy to look at, blonde with light haze, some carbonation but not a lot of head. the nose is tangy, faintly sweaty to me, a little husky from some wheat malt i would guess, tannins in play, clean lemony lactic character too though, soft and mild pale malt, and the sort of not quite ripe cherry character that the goldenberry brings. tangy right away in the flavor, some acid from the pineapple is here too, its again a little sweaty or even cheesy on the bacterial side, but its quite minor, and the acidity level overall is great, not too sharp to drink on, but plenty piquant and enhancing of the fruits. some sweetness too most of the way from the pineapple, a little hint of coconut from somewhere almost makes it do a pina colada thing, no complaints from me on that. i wish it had more carbonation, this sort of thing should pop when this one sags, and its not quite expert on the souring, but its fun and its summery, lighthearted, unique, and enjoyable. my wife was into it as well!
