Had on-tap at Bierpub Louis in Sapporo.
This strong golden ale didn't wow me in any particular way except that is was quite a bit rougher than the normally extremely balanced and delicate Baird offering.
The beer is a slightly hazy, dark gold and developed a dirty lasting head throughout the pint. Baird used only base malts and unmalted wheat in the brewing. The mouthfeel is smooth but the taste hits with a sharp impact of potent bitterness and sweetness and a chewy graininess. A forceful beer, and almost abrasive -- perfect for a cool Fall day.
Intended to be a belgian-style beer made without belgian yeast. It reminded me of some of the malt liquors that American micros have made lately.
