The name implies this was something experimental for the brewer. And being my first Rye anything it was an experiment for myself as well. But the results were mostly pleasant.
On sale at the Baird Nakameguro taproom
A - 1.5 fingers of bone white head. A watery tea color. Not unlike filtered apple juice. Very clear, perhaps heavily filtered. Despite the nice head, there is zero continued carbonation. Flat but heady. Intriguing. No lacing. Served in a "lager glass"
S - Initial yeast smells and a dry hoppy spicy sting. Very dry. Astringent almost. Aftersmell also dry maybe a bit of husk smell. No yeast smells. Final smells a bit sweeter.
T - The taste of this beer made up for a lot of the peculiar sights and smells. There is a initial malty SPLASH with a sweet tingle of sugar and hops. There is a nice balance between the malt and hops but sadly a lack of complexity. No detectable yeast flavors (filtered out) And finally a mild malt/hop aftertaste.
M - Very smooth, good body, foamy sea spray dancing in my mouth.
D - This is a pleasant beer. Rye gives it a different taste but not all that distinct. I enjoyed it over all. This was my first rye beer and I look forward to trying others.
