32oz growler poured into a snifter
A- pours a deep black color with a dark tan head that eventually fades to leave just a ring around the head, leaves some good lacing behind
S- smells of chocolate and ashy charred malt up front, along with overripe banana peel. Plenty of oaky barrel notes popping through, along with strong bourbon from the Smooth Ambler barrel, adding some caramel as well.
T- fairly one dimensional up front with charred malt and a bit of sweetness. Mid-palate brings out a bit of dark fruit, immediately followed by huge wet oak & vanilla, along with spicy barrel juice. Bourbon continues into the finish and lingers of oak and char.
M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a slightly warming finish
O- I'd be interested to know how long the beer sat in the barrel because this is screaming of bourbon. I'd imagine that they were quite wet, considering that they came from across the street. As a bourbon drinker, this was enjoyable for me, but the base beer was overpowered by the barrel at times

This black beer with a fading tan head smells and tastes like ripe, mushy bananas, and they are delicious. Had on draft at YNOT pizza, had two in a row, which is very rare for me. The booze is well-hidden.
