Poured from growler into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a deeper amber color with a bit of a reddish sheen and a small one finger head of white foam. The head fades very rapidly, leaving a light level of lace on the sides of the glass and a film on the surface of the brew.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is big of a rich and bready smell mixed with some caramel and some notes of citrus of both a sweet and slightly bitter aroma due to both orange and grapefruit smells. Some lighter floral hop notes and a little bit of toasted biscuit are there as well, overall giving a nice aroma.
Taste – The taste begins with a caramel and bready flavor mixed with a little bit of a grapefruit and floral hop. Upfront there is also a little bit of a toffee and light fruit flavor of pear and apple which rapidly fade with the bready flavor taking on a more biscuit and cracker note. The hop increases some as the taste moves to the end, with both the grapefruit and floral flavors growing in intensity along with some other hops of a herbal flavor coming to the tongue. Overall, a rather crisp and decently hopped drier flavor is left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker side for a brew of only 5 % abv. with a carbonation level that is on the lower side (as may be expected for a growler pour). Overall the feel was surprisingly nice for the bitter mixed with the drier flavors and made it a slower sipper then the beer traditionally would have been.
Overall – A rather nicely bittered and drier amber with a good feel and good drinkability while only at 5 % abv. A good one to try.

Very light—much lighter than most ambers (or even amber bocks, for that matter)—but very pleasingly bitter, sharp, and fairly hopped, this No 1 is a slightly better-than-solid opus from Birdger. A very pale brown with golden notes, this ale may deviate a bit from the generic "amber" distinctions—but not by too much, despite straying into territory so light and fresh. The malting is mildly sweet, but has quite good bite, and the nose reflects that. Very drinkable.
