Served on tap in a snifter glass

Appearance – The beer is served a deep brown nearly black color with a tiny head of a cream color. The head fades very fast to leave just a trace of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is big of a chocolate smell mixed with a nice base of roasted malt as well as some smells of sweet caramel. A light level of chili pepper rounds out the aroma nicely matching the chocolate and roast to leave a very pleasant chili chocolate aroma overall.

Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter chocolate and roasted malt flavor with flavors of caramel and some brown sugar there as well. As the taste advances a little bit of a nuttiness joins the flavor all while the sweeter chocolate and caramel grow more intense in nature. Being a brew brewed with chili peppers you don’t get much of it upfront, but at the end however, it starts to become more pronounced, with a nice subtle hot and spicy chili flavor coming to the tongue. With the coming of the chili at the end and mixing with the other flavors, one is left with a light heat and very nicely roasted, chocolate and darker flavors creating a very palatable and enjoyable flavor overall.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather low. For the style it is very nice as the lower carbonation and moderate body is good for blending the chili with the sweeter chocolate and roasted flavors of the brew. Overall very nice.

Overall – A quite nice porter with chili. The chili nicely complements the chocolate and roasted flavors; giving it just the right level of heat, while not being overwhelming or obnoxious. Very nicely crafted.
