A big hoppy beer. Warming alcohol throughout. The spice from the Rye malt plays well with the spicy Noble-Hop character from the Sterling hops. A solid backbone of biscuit and caramel malt flavors carry the bitterness.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – The beer is served a hazy brownish-orange-amber color with a nice thick head of white foam. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading to leave a decent sum or foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is strongest of a sweeter smell with a decent showing of some caramel and a moderate amount of an orange and tangerine sweetness. Along with these aromas are some nice notes of rye bread and a good showing of a pine and earthy hop smell. A little bit of a spicy aroma is there as well creating a very nice aroma overall.

Taste – The taste begins with a slightly sweeter caramel and fruity flavor of tangerine and orange with a little bit of a grapefruit hop. The grapefruit is light upfront, but is soon joined by some pine and earth as well as a rather decent showing of a spicy rye flavor. The spicy rye and grapefruit grow stronger and stronger as the taste advances, all while the caramel fades a bit, but with it being replaced by some more sweet citrus fruit flavors. In the end, the grapefruit hop surges a little bit, all while a moderate amount of a graininess comes to the tongue, leaving one with a decently sweet rye bread flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly chewier side with a carbonation level that is slightly lower. For the rye and sweet flavors of the brew the feel is very nice with it allowing all the rich rye and sweet and moderate hoppiness to linger on the tongue.

Overall – This was a rather nice rye. A bit on the sweeter side, but overall still very drinkable. Not a bad one to try if you get a chance.
