Vasaknų Dvaro "Tamsus"
Basically a growler fill; in Lithuania they have draught systems set up to fill 1 litre brown plastic bottles with screw-tops. I got this fill at an Alynas an hour ago. 5.70% ABV.
Reviewed live, but added from notes taken while waiting for this brewery to be added to the site. Notes are dated ~July 2014.
Served cold and side-poured a bit gently as slight carbonation issues are anticipated.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: Pours a one finger wide head, white in colour. It's pretty typical; not very frothy or creamy. No lacing sticks to the sides of the glass as the head recedes. Average complexion and consistency.
BODY: Translucent semitransparent dark copper. Dull and unattractive. Clean; no yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible.
Overall, it looks okay, but is far from unique or special.
AROMA: Helles malts, breadiness, amber malts, bread crust, and ample residual sugars.
A pleasant aroma of mild strength.
No yeast character, alcohol, or off-notes are detectable.
TASTE: Amber malts, bread crust, apt sweetness, and light toasted malt. Caramalt. Pretty simple, but it boasts some notable cohesion and focus. It's not all that subtly executed, but I do like it for what it is. Not too sweet, which would cripple it and often does.
Average depth, amplitude, duration, and intensity of flavour.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, medium-bodied, fairly filling, and well-carbonated (perhaps even a bit overly so.) This texture suits the taste generally pretty well, but doesn't do anything to bring out the best in it.
OVERALL: I'll have little trouble finishing the litre bottle, and it's a well priced beer, but there's nothing particularly remarkable about it. I'd likely get it again if I lived in Lithuania, but it's pretty average, all things considered.
Not suitable for aging.
