A bigger black IPA as they go, tons of roast and body on it, almost built like a hoppy porter, as robust as it is. Big milkshake looking inch of head on top of the slick black base. Pine hop aroma is augmented my a sweet crystal malt middle that fits in well, adding richness and softening the intensity of both the hops and the very dark roasted malts. The flavor matches the aroma, with grain really kneading the way. Bitter drip coffee up front, caramel candy in the middle, and a huge earthy bitter hop finish that lingers forever. As much as the dark malts lead the way, the hops are also bold, still oily, almost even greasy for a second. The body is large, palate coating and filling, but after a single digit degree day on the slopes, this is exactly the kind of beer I crave. Very well built, these guys are on it.
