Taster at brewery. Decent doppelbock, not one trait outstanding, but overall a smooth drinker, nice malty aroma, smooth taste, velvety mouth feel. Goes down easy....

Poured from tap into pint glass at Nano-brew festival PDX.
One of my favorite beers in the world (Celebrator) is a doppelbock. I am very familiar with the style. So I appreciate the American twist on one of the most amazing German beer styles ever made.
Pours a very red hue with some brown undertones. Lacks head and lacing. Carbonation is a little too intense. Nose is nice, dominated by caramel, malts, and roasted nuts with some red fruit peeking out. The taste seems to lack the complexity the nose suggests. The sweetness overtakes a lot of the more subtle nuances. The texture is good but lacks grip. Finish is short and a little flat.
Overall a good effort, and a beer that shows promise. A little less intense sweetness on the palate and a little more grip on the finish and we have a winner.

Beer #10 sampled at Eastern Oregon DONG (Dudes of Northwest Grog) "We Will Bock You!" tasting @ Barley Brown's, 8.6.11. 22 oz. bottle with artisan label, ABV not listed on bottle. Report change to unretire beer sent.
Medium brown body, tan head, no visible effervescence, medium dissipation with some light lacing legs. Some burnt brown sugar and bready malts dominate the nose, floral hops. Taste mirrors the nose, quite smooth, a bit of stone fruit, plums, not much, fairly hoppy on the backend. Mouthfeel a bit on the heavy side of medium, dry finish, smooth. Bronze medal winner GABF 2011, and like all of Tonya Cornett's beers, drinkable and tasty. Harder than hell to find bottles of this outside the brewery, but certainly worth the effort. I'll be interested in seeing how this ages.

Poured a deep, near-black ruby with one finger of near-white head with decent retention.
The aroma was all clean cookie-dough malt with a slight hint of roastiness and a touch of alcohol.
The taste was clean and scientific, largely comprised of the same cookie-dough malt, though with a larger roasted malt element this time around. There was also a touch of nuttiness and coffee, as well as distinct alcohol.
The mouthfeel was solidly style-appropriate - medium-bodied and firm but polite.
Overall, a pretty damn good dopplebock, and a welcomed seasonal for this brewery.
