Look: Dark brown, almost black on the pour with a frothy tan head that forms a pillow and slowly craters to a lid, leaving awesome lacing behind
Aroma: Lemons, pine, fir needles, grapefruit, gooseberries, warmed bread, navel orange, lime, and wafts of chocolate
Taste: Starts off with a little lemon and lime before a huge punch of pithy grapefruit, orange, and conifer notes come crashing in along with some bitterness. Dark chocolate and berries weave in and out and closes with a second citrus and conifer hit and another big hop bite
Mouthfeel: Full, medium-high carbonation, and a medium to medium-strong amount of dryness
Overall: This is tasty stuff. I love CDAs/Black IPAs so had to give this one a try and I can report, it’s delicious and old school. Tons of citrus/pine-led flavor and bitterness and my only knock would be that I’d be up for a stronger malt presence (roast, chocolate, etc.) but it isn’t non-existent here, just smothered by the hops. Definitely worth the purchase and recommended, especially if one likes CDAs
