Reviewed from notes. Consumed 11/5/18. Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass.
A: Very dark brown to black, almost opaque. Low visible carbonation, and a thin tan head fades fairly quickly to a ring that lasts for awhile.
S: Chocolate, roasted malts, and light bourbon. Some oak, vanilla, and moist leather. Nice enough I suppose.
T: Sweet dark chocolate, and milder coffee within the roasted malts. Bourbon with plenty of boozy sweetness. Rich American oak, vanilla, and light graphite. Sweet leathery vanilla and toffee, Modest roasty and hop bitterness, then more sweet chocolate and vanilla in the hang.
M: A heavy body, but not really thick in the Tampa (read: Cycle/Angry Chair/Cigar City) style. Low but perfectly acceptable carbonation sensation. Alcohol seems about average for a barrel-aged Imperial Stout.
O: Fine, but ultimately nothing memorable. Maybe a touch over-sweet, and yet under-bourboned. Or at least more roasted malt bitterness or oak tannin dryness could have provided a counterpoint. But nice round chocolatey flavors complimented by the sweet bourbon. Certainly decent, just nothing to set itself apart in a crowded "Greater Tampa" marketplace for such styles.
